MINING

Quarry my heart

To mine my mind

Ireland

You left me

Blind by design

So that I would break ground

In my own lost and found

And cross that shadow line

With words

That are mine

ODE TO THE VALLEY OAK

You are god

And goddess

Formed

Ever effacing judgment

Of single eyes

No angle

Is the sum of your parts

No center holds you

Brave chins lift

To meet your gaze

Wind showers light

In strands

And petals dark

Mist clings

To your shadows

Birthing worlds

You twist and spin

To a tune all your own

In time

So much longer

Than us

KNOWN KNOTS

Go to the woods

Carve your hearts

In the ground

Dreams can be born

Quiet from sound

Tying truths

In known knots

Can be felt

By all hands

JOINT TENANCY

I gather up this valley

It is my brightest realm

The feathered leaders

Stand down

Letting me take the helm

Art is mounting

Air is lifting

Lands are forming

Colors sifting

Space so pure

The lost outdoors

Clasp it tight

What’s mine

Is yours

POET'S TIME

Light step, star lady

Sing a song

Stop the world

From falling long

Into the depths

Of wishes wronged

Pierce the layer

Silent sayer

Time will warp

To hear the prayer

Stillness leans

Into breath’s beams

A pause

Applause

Where words

Birth dreams

BATTLEFIELD

Might as well be blind

Facing you

So unkind

Losing my mind

Forest sits

Looking on

Bending to calm

Charms are gone

Years undone

Meanness won

Battle drum

STEEPLE

Stripped down

The one who wears the crown

Grows to great heights

Tallest tree in sight

Left standing

Alone

Its network

Dethroned

Avenues laid bare

Redwood dust kicks up

Blank stares

Lift an ax to this god?

Beware

NEW YORK RUSH

Peregrine falcons curl up and cry

Screeching from skyscrapers

Their forests died

Light forsaken

Rivers of people

Looking up

Gaping

Ballasts unburdened

Ships did make them

Walkways of mayhem

Tunnels and sewers

Steam underground

Best party brewers

Lifelines indoors

Nervous system endures

Asbestos air smothers

Speed wins undercover

Families hold tight

Their crumbling monasteries

Luxuries gliding on

Polluted soup estuaries

City of  blight

City of might

Enter at your own risk

By the lady with the light

HIDE

Bleed my heart

Bleed my mind

Run from kindness

In disguise

Blythe awakening

Rob me blind

The gate is closing

Spirit imploding

Blasted in time

BORDERLAND

Borderland

Sleigh in hand

Eye the dart

Clouds a lifting

See them breathing

Dark storm rising

Birds are fleeing

Take their cue

To a world anew
